I’ve always been a huge fan of Ramsey Lewis, and wanted to write something as a tribute to him. I also named it after The Orbit Room in Toronto. I had the house band there every Saturday for 10 years, and still play there once a month with The Dexters. I love playing in The Dexters, but was always frustrated that the stage is so small that I could never fit a piano alongside the Hammond organ. So here I get to play both. When The Dexters formed in 1994, we had a certain sound from the moment we played that first song in rehearsal at Mike Sloski’s pad in Riverdale. This CD was inspired by my time playing with those guys….Bernie LaBarge, Peter Cardinali…and our 3 drummers…Mike Sloski, Greg Critchley and Larnell Lewis.
